WHAT IS DELTA 8 THC

WHAT IS DELTA 8 THC?

Delta 8 THC, otherwise called tetrahydrocannabinol, is a natural cannabinoid present in Marijuana and Cannabis – collectively, Cannabis. Tetrahydrocannabinol is usually abbreviated as Δ8THC, Delta 8 THC, D8 THC, D8THC, and Δ8. Delta 8 THC is an isomer of both Delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol – i.e., D9THC and CBD, respectively. They both share a molar mass of 314.464 g/mol and a chemical formula of C21H30O2.

Delta 8 THC exists naturally. Nonetheless, it can also be produced via the conversion of Delta 9 THC or CBD through a chemical reaction usually stimulated by catalysts, heat, solvents, and/or pH environments.

As an oil, it is typically extremely viscous, existing in an activated state like that of Delta 9 THC. This implies that D8 THC doesn’t need decarboxylation before its effects are felt.

THE IMPORTANCE OF D8 THC

Without gainsaying, Delta 8 THC offers many benefits, especially because it can serve as an excellent alternative for Delta 9 THC. However, this doesn’t mean it doesn’t have adverse side effects too. Of course, it has! And this includes sleep issues, addiction, anxiety, laziness, paranoia, etc. Despite these side effects, it is safe to say that Delta 8 THC somehow doesn’t offer appreciable extents of side effects, especially when its benefits are compared to its negative effects. Besides, if you have, one time or the other, been concerned about the side effects of Delta 9 THC, then D8THC is an excellent substitute for you!

A great benefit offered is its incredible chance of addiction reduction. This doubles as a societal and medicinal advantage. Similarly, Delta 8 THC possesses natural protection against abuse. If you excessively consume tetrahydrocannabinol, you can still build an appreciable level of tolerance to the mental “high.” What this does is forcing consumers to consume responsibly. This is also beneficial for persons who use tetrahydrocannabinol for medicinal purposes yet need to eliminate the “high” feeling without been deprived of the needed feeling.

Although it’s still somewhat early to make such an assumption, Delta 8 THC easily betters both Delta 9 THC and CBD. The video above shows that the effects of Delta 8 THC can be both life-saving and life-changing. As a member of the cannabis community, we haven’t seen such several positive reviews from anything else.

LEGALITIES OF D8 THC

H.R. 2: The Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, often called the 2018 Farm Bill, legalized Delta 8 THC. Delta 8 THC was particularly legalized because it allowed all isomers, derivatives, and cannabinoids of hemp absent in Delta 9 THC. However, before then, it was illegal, named the Controlled Substances Act.

In addition to making all hemp isomers, derivatives, and cannabinoids legal, the 2018 Farm Bill specifically included texts to eliminate any confusion between laws. This was successful via the amendment of the Controlled Substances Act to remove D8 THC from hemp.

So, at the moment, we can safely say that D8 THC is federally legal and similarly legal in many states – it’s not legalized in all states. Basically, Delta 8 THC is legal in states whose hemp laws mirrors H.R. 2. Some states don’t do this: some either intentionally exclude Delta 8 THC or intentionally don’t make all hemp isomers, cannabinoids, and derivatives legal, therefore, making a grey area for the compound.

CREATION OF DELTA 8 THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol exists naturally in marijuana and hemp – cannabis. But they do this in meager quantities, such that they can’t be extracted nor infused into products at affordable prices. An excellent thing about cannabinoids is their somewhat jampacked structure.

These similarities in their structure make cannabinoids changeable through chemical reactions. It is often inappropriately called cannabinoids synthetics. This doesn’t seem right; the better word is “derivatives” or “conversions.” This is because cannabinoids don’t only exist naturally but also naturally change from one to another upon applying light, heat, and time. Factually, every cannabinoid starts as CBGA before naturally synthesizing into other cannabinoids as the cannabis plant matures. For instance, converting THCA to Delta 9 THC upon applying heat can be done at home by anyone who consumes marijuana. This explains that conversion is a significant part of the cannabis industry and shouldn’t fear any ramification.

Other rare cannabinoids, such as cannabinol (CBN), cannabichromene (CBC), and Delta 8 THC, can be created through these reactions. These reactions are also sometimes a relatively cheaper means of making cannabinoids such as Delta 9 THC available in abundance instead of the straightforward extraction process.

Safety is paramount too! Since Delta 8 THC is created in a laboratory, the extract’s safety is a factor of major concern. What must be ensured is that it is safely created with all reagents, solvents, bases, or acids are appropriately removed from the product.

DELTA 8 THC EFFECTS

  • Motivating
  • Relaxed/Calm
  • Soothes pains & aches
  • Boosts a human’s mood
  • Increased sex drive
  • Less nauseous
  • Increased appetite
  • Improves sleep

People experience Delta 8 THC differently. However, the best way of explaining the average experience is by imagining the combination of Delta 8 THC and the best part of CBD. It is mood-boosting, relaxing, enjoyably euphoric, & not overwhelming intoxicating. Some persons report that it motivates or energizes them, especially when consumed lowly. Some confirm its sleep-inducing abilities, especially when highly consumed.

When consumed appropriately, users say they feel extra active and functional on Delta 8 THC than Delta 9 THC. Technically, it seems more medicinal than Delta 9 THC and CBD.

You can vaporize and inhale it, too. If done this way, you can start experiencing Delta 8 THC’s effects within twenty minutes and sometimes last up to 5 hours after consumption. Its strength and effect depend on an individual, anyway. Technically, the more the Delta 8 THC is pure, plus the fewer cannabinoids, the quicker users begin to feel it and the higher the effects’ intensity.

When consumed orally, it takes between 45 minutes and four hours to peak. Its effects may last up to twelve hours. This is way longer than what has been observed in Delta 9 THC. Delta 8 THC is potentially convenient and exceptional as a cannabis treatment – do not administer more than two doses per 24-hour treatment.

Another excellent plus is Delta 8 THC’s ability to reduce paranoia and mental fogginess. That is, you can take Delta 8 THC and still be confident of accomplishing your task. The adverse effects of Delta 8 THC include upset stomach, drowsiness, headache, red eyes, dry mouth.

ONSET OF D8 THC EFFECTS

The effects of Delta 8 THC depend on how it is consumed. Nonetheless, its effects are often delayed than those of Delta 9 THC, thanks to purity and the presence of a couple of compounds.

From observation, a pure tetrahydrocannabinol vape can be felt almost immediately, whereas a tetrahydrocannabinol oil having at least 20% CBD may delay effects for about twenty minutes.

You may not experience peak effects for the first four hours if you eat tetrahydrocannabinol. This is slightly different from Delta 9 THC, whose effects can be felt within the first 45 minutes and two hours.

DOSING DELTA 8 THC

Because the effects of Delta 8 THC are delayed, it may take days and a couple of usages before you discover your perfect dose. Everyone has unique doses, which doesn’t depend on physical properties, such as weight, sex, age, etc. Hence, regardless of your weight or size, it is better to start with lower doses until you find your perfect match. The thing is, you can always increase your intake of Delta 8 THC, but you can’t “un-take” it.

Typically, a dose of Δ8THC ranges between 10-40 mg. if you need more than 40mg, then maybe you are a heavy recreational user of Δ9THC. Even with as little as 10mg, you can experience a major difference. Although these effects vary, we generally advise that users don’t take more than 10mg when they start dosing.

Typically, a vape dosage takes puffing for 1-3 seconds. Unless you are a heavy user of Δ9THC, there is no point taking more than that.

If you use Δ9THC consistently, we advise that you start consuming in a 1:1 manner. Several studies confirm that Δ8THC is roughly 75% as potent as Δ9THC – although we haven’t confirmed these figures because the effects between these two compounds can’t be compared directly. Nonetheless, we have confirmed that the potency of Δ8THC varies from person to person, and the quest for, and ultimate lack of, mental fog when consuming Δ8THC is the major reason people say Δ8THC is more efficient in calming anxieties and other similar bodily feelings.

Many persons have reported that Δ8THC is more potent than Δ9THC, particularly with edibles. Because of this, we recommend that you consume a similar dose as you will consume Δ9THC and exert intentional effort in discovering your perfect dose.

HOW LONG DO D8 THC EFFECTS LAST?

The lasting period of Delta 8 THC’s effects depends on an individual. Averagely, pure vapes last about 1.5 hours, while edibles and tinctures last about 5-12 hours. Technically, the larger the dose, the longer its effects last, particularly with edibles and tinctures.

A challenge that we often experience in determining the lasting period of Delta 8 THC’s effects is because the compound has an appreciable natural onset and come down. Hence, it’s sometimes difficult for a consumer to discover their baseline before and after taking Delta 8 THC.

This usually holds for persons who don’t feel “high” from D8THC but just get a mood boost. Sometimes, these people do not even notice the change of mood. And this is because of such a person’s natural onset, which makes them think the compound had no effects. We have seen this multiple times during sampling where individuals claim they can’t feel anything but someone close to them will inform how they’ve become more pleasant in the last couple of minutes.

Another challenge users experience in determining their Delta 8 THC’s effects lasting period is because most reports are provided based on their peaks, which disregards a significant amount of time spent above baseline after feeling the peak effects. Technically, the effects of D8 THC do not reach their peak and disappears immediately. The phase-out occurs gradually.

Generally, the effects of D8 THC are felt longer when it is eaten than if vaporized.

DELTA 8 THC SAFETY

Because of the need to create D8 THC in a laboratory, the primary safety concern is that lab scientists or chemists perform the procedures correctly.

For usage safety, no one knows any deadly overdose limit for D8 THC. However, eating more D8 THC that you actually need can lead to extreme anxiety or paranoia, a similar side effect of D9 THC. Gently eat and stay intentional in finding your proper dose.

Please note that D8 THC has no long-term safety data.

TOLERANCE TO DELTA 8 THC

No studies address the tolerance of D8 THC. However, from observations, we can safely say its tolerance is similar to that of D9 THC – its tolerance builds gradually over time but can be accelerated if overused.

Recent reports say D8 THC tolerance builds somewhat rapidly than that of D9 THC, although these are usually accompanied by certain persons admitting that they use D8 THC frequently and quicker than they did with D9 THC. Users reference this majorly because of the delayed onset of D8 THC when compared to D9 THC.

DELTA 8 THC METABOLITES

People believe D8 THC has the same metabolites that D9 THC has, except the double bond. However, studies do not show the exact metabolites; factually, the only study that mentioned metabolites was carried out on mice.

Initially, we suggested that the metabolites of D8 THC last longer than those of D9 THC, especially when eaten. We observe that they’re possibly stronger, too.

WILL I PASS A DRUG TEST ON DELTA 8 THC?

No, you won’t. And this is because the metabolites of D8 THC are either similar or equal to those of D9 THC and will therefore stimulate a positive test for D9 THC.

This was tested using a home drug testing kit on three individuals who only consumed D8 THC. And when the local police also conducted a drug test at a lab on the individuals, all tests returned positive for THC.

Although we hear a couple of persons pass the test while using D8 THC, we haven’t confirmed such claims. And we think even if this is true, it is very uncommon.

SHELF LIFE OF DELTA 8 THC

Since forever, the longest test conducted on D8 THC oil is four months. For this test, the oil returned, testing better than it did at first. At the first testing, it was 95%; the second testing after four months recorded 98%.

However, this is within the normal range of testing, which means that the potency of D8 THC extracts grows over time. Although nothing is impossible, it is somewhat unfeasible for the oil to increase its concentration with D8 THC. It is still safe to say that nothing changed after the four months; the test just experienced a minor variance.

We stored the oil in individual syringes at room temperature – ~72F – and away from direct light rays – artificial light or sunlight.

HOW DEFINITIVE IS THE DATA ON DELTA 8 THC?

In summary, it is not quite definitive. Like other cannabinoids apart from CBD and Delta 9 THC, no long-term study has been carried out on D8 THC for things like proper dosing, effects, safety, etc. Although we all know that Delta 8 THC is a naturally occurring cannabinoid, we can also find it – although in meager quantities – in extracts and flowers. Their products can deliver a maximally concentrated volume of Delta 8 THC.

Over the years, several marihuana markets have safely handled Delta 8 THC. However, their products typically use Delta 8 THC gotten through Delta 9 THC isomerization, not CBD. These processes are slightly different and usually contain a considerable amount of Delta 9 THC added to Delta 8 THC. For hemp to remain hemp – i.e., the final product containing <0.3% Delta 9 THC – the D8 THC gotten from hemp must be done differently.

OBSERVED POTENTIAL OF DELTA 8 THC / AREAS TO STUDY

It is almost impossible to claim that D8 THC treats a specific condition, even though we have seen a couple of users who say they use it for treatments. Because of these significant amounts of positive feedback in these areas, we hope that scientists or chemists would carry out studies to present D8 THC as a sure means of treating anxiety, pain, depression, brain disorders, autism, and nausea, etc.

We initially observed that D8 THC is potentially medicinal and beneficial than Delta 9 THC and CBD. Hence, we hope that the cannabis and medical communities would enjoy this amazing new cannabinoid.
